Hmm, what do you count as "downtown"?
I'd certainly agree that San Francisco is "walkier" than any other US
city I've been to, but I don't think that on average I walk there
nearly as much as I do in London. In San Francisco, most walking is
constrained to within a few blocks of Union Square (much like Henry, I
park at either Sutter/Stockton or -- more frequently -- Fifth and
Mission, then walk). In London, I happily walked from The Strand to
Oxford Street via Piccadilly Circus. That seems to be about double
the distance I'd normally walk in SF (say, Metreon to Sir Francis Drake:
