Indeed. I wasn't at all sure what chips cost nowadays. 80p was a  
guess based on the fact that they were in the 30p to 60p range when I  
left and that I couldn't believe they could cost as much as a pound.

Nor do ours, but a chip shop is rarely more than 50 yards from an off- 
sales. The cunning consumer always buys the fish supper first. Better  
to drop that in the off-sales than to lose your bucky in the chippy  
whilst fishing in your pockets for money.
