[Osx-nutters] hypothetical Hillary

So, Bush is getting legislation that means any designated
enemy combatant or suspected enemy combatant (at the Presidents
designation) can be locked up without habeas corpus and tortured. Not
much of the constitution remains, etc.

So, I know how the right justify this to themselves now.
Gotta break a few eggs (and constitutional rights) to make a war on
terror omelette.

But just imagine. So, say Hillary Clinton wins both
democratic nomination and the election. Forget for the moment whether
or not you think this is plausible. If its necessary for you to
imagine some Democrat version of the Swift Boaters releasing a video
of the Bushs and Bin Laden playing naked twister to imagine Hillary
winning, whatever. But her husband won handily, and I know half the
country hates her but the same can be said of GWB. And I'm choosing
her just because I know the right (and Chuck) hate her with a passion
(me, I think she is just very ambitious and politically pragmatic
centre-leftist).
Now, just imagine we get a repeat terrorist attack. Not of
the WTC bombings, but of the second worst terrorist atrocity on US
soil - the one committed by a white, Christian, right wing
ex-serviceman.
Suddenly, Hillary Clinton would have the power to lock up,
without trial or judicial oversight or limit, and torture, aprobably
just about anyone connected to a right wing, extremist Christian, or
probably paramilitary gun loving, group.
So, did anyone on the Right really think this through?

OK, so this is mostly to put Chuck on the spot, but I am
genuinely interested in how those on the right justify creating this
sort of scenario.
The standard explanation from the paranoid left is that the
Bush crowd have no intention of losing power and we'll see the
dictatorship unfold soon, but really I tend to the 'never attribute
to malevolence what can be explained by incompetence' dictum, and I'm
assuming that they just didn't think through the consequences of
their actions (which seems pretty much standard operating procedure).
Is that it? Is it just that the entire Republican party and US Right
is so myopic they can't see beyond the next couple of years any more?
	Cheers
		Dave
