Sadly it does matter in the sense that there will always be some
cynical politician who will exploit such differences. Here in Arizona
it is amazing, and disgusting, to see how the politicians who clung
to Bush's coat-tails right up to the point where his popularity
crashed have universally switched to an anti-Mexican agenda. They
don't want to talk about any issue but immigration. And the black
vote, that they never cared about before, is now a precious jewel in
their eye.
Frankly, I liked them a lot better when they sounded like Chuck
Bennett. You may think he's an asshole, but compared to a real
asshole, Chuck's a peach.
