[Osx-nutters] Fitzgerald given way out of Libby CIA leak case

So this is pretty much the end of it.

What we know.

1: No laws were broken.  Plame was not a secret agent at the time.

2: Anti War sceptic Richard Armitage leaked Plame's name accidentally.

3: Rove didn't do it and must be laughing at all those folks that  
thought they were finally going to get him..

4:  The worm has turned and now Fitzgerald has his ass in trouble  
because he continued an investigation 3 years after he knew the  
answer to the question he was supposed to investigate.

That is a career ending move and the best he can hope for is to  
quietly get out of this mess and go away.  He could be disbarred if  
they wanted to go after him..

IF (and it is a big if) Libby did perjure  himself, it is generally  
accepted that since the truth was already known by Fitzgerald and he  
had no reason to question Libby at all, (as  he knew that Libby was  
not the source)  then Libby would not normally be accused of  
perjury.   Otherwise, prosecutors could go on and on for years, in  
any case hoping to play 'gotcha' with anyone that they wanted to target.

The rule is that when you know the answer, you stop asking questions..

So, it is Fitzgerald that is now looking for a face saving way of  
getting out of this.

The Judge just handed him his way out.   Any bets on if he takes it?

Next up is the warrentless wiretaps..

You remember..   The impeachable offense that was going to bring down  
the Bush Whitehouse..

Looks like Congress will simply amend their laws to allow what Bush  
was doing to go on and avoid a constitutional showdown that they (or  
the President) might loose.   Pretty much the norm on these kinds of  
fights.

Assuming they can get it done before they go on break, I expect  
business as usual when it comes to tapping calls from known terrorists.

Side note:

Well..  After a long hiatus in posting, I've done more than my share  
in one day.

I changed jobs to the Chemistry Dept. here at Ohio University.  (had  
to move one entire floor down from Geology)

My first observation is that the Chemists are smarter then the  
Geologists but the Geologists drink better beer.  (and they now use  
Macs)

Pretty much a wash, but now I have to convert another batch of  
windows heretics over to  real computers.

I love a challenge.
