I agree with mmalc that it's the person's responsibility to look  
after their weight. Now what Patrick says about hidden dangerous  
ingredients is valid too, so a person may be eating more than they  
realise. But eventually this does become something that they can very  
obviously see in the mirror, at which point it becomes their  
responsibility to do whatever it takes to get back in balance. They  
have to question their choice of foods and their activity levels.

The problem is if the kinds of foods that they can afford are of such  
bad quality that they give you little nutrition, and leave you still  
feeling hungry despite having had a high calorie intake. That's an  
interesting issue because it heads in the direction of substances  
which are banned because they just damage your system in hidden ways.

We might just say the government should educate people with good  
information about which foods are just "bad" foods, which ingredients  
are bad ingredients. We have warnings on cigarette packets, and in  
the UK heart disease is actually the biggest killer.
