"The belief that there is no God" (Webster's)
Atheism is an irrational fundamentalistic "belief". A scientist can  
be agnostic but she/he/it can also believe in a creator that created  
something that works all by itself without its/his/her personal  
intervention, from my point of view this kind of "believer" can be a  
good scientist, atheists can't.
