I do so prefer Australian politics. One of our most popular
Prime Ministers was a professed agnostic who had actually set a beer
drinking record that was in the Guinness book of Records.
He was a flagrant womaniser too, but US presidents do seem to
have that covered historically, despite a recent outbreak of prudery.
Actually, this week Australia has its first female acting
Prime Minister ever, while the PM is in Bali talking climate change.
Our current Cabinet also includes, in the one person, our first Asian
born and our first openly gay Minister, and she is a relatively young
woman too (for a senior politician). We've had other gay cabinet
ministers, obviously, but the only out one I know of I think came out
after leaving Cabinet. Its nice to feel as if we aren't run entirely
by old conservative white men for a change.
Cheers
David
