Indeed. Look at the different levels of lactose (in)tolerance in  
different ethnic groups. One sometimes hears things like "Due to the  
reliance on milk in their diet, Scandinavian people developed a high  
lactose tolerance". But this is really just a different way if saying  
"Due to a high lactose content in their diet, Scandinavian people who  
had a lower lactose tolerance were more unwell and/or dies younger  
than people with higher lactose tolerance - who were the ones  
managing to get offspring, so the lactose-tolerance genes were  
perpetuated". Or shorter, "If you were lactose intolerant, you were  
culled from the gene pool. Sorry!"
