I agree to a point.  That was an actual letter sent the the senator  
though.

I think they should be brought into the system as guest workers and  
get the full benefits of any employee.  I also think their employer  
should have to pay any back taxes and social security owed for ALL  
their years not just two.  Odds are that they were not making enough  
to actually own personal income taxes anyway so that part is a wash.   
Their half of social security and the employers could be paid over  
time and I'd be ok with that as long as we actually collect it.

OTOH, all that would accomplish is to create an underground market  
for yet more illegal aliens since the ones getting the benefits and  
being payed above the table would no longer be attractive to  
employers unless you take other steps.

I also oppose the big illegal round ups as well.  Too many kids at  
risk when you grab 'dad' off the job site and deport him and all it  
does is terrorize people that are just trying to feed their families.

What's worse is that it's all show but makes no difference at all  
except making someone who's life is already miserable  more so.

The way to go is to go after the  fat cats at the top and make it a  
felony to hire an illegal.  Next,  do some really high profile busts  
where everyone gets to see some white guy in a suit being perp walked  
into jail.

That would force the entire game above board and make a guest worker  
program viable but accountable.

As for using the emergency room as a free clinic.   We see it all the  
time where I live and the vast majority op people using them that way  
are not illegal just poor.

The funny thing here in Athens is that the only illegals 'I' know are  
Canadians.   They are working on their masters but their visa has  
expired and they are afraid to go home, since they might not get back  
quickly.

Naturally, I blackmail one of them for free soup.[1]

helped him get a cheap university surplus replacement.
